Keeping a secret has always been difficult, even before the Internet allowed you to spill every detail in a snap. If you struggle to keep your lips sealed, there’s a new app specifically designed for those who suffer from word vomit.
Aptly named Secret, the free service lets you post anonymous statuses with friends. (Somewhere, an aging Gossip Girl is wishing this existed when the CW show aired — just think of how much juicier the plots would have been! But, at that time, the app's founders David Byttow and Chrys Bader were working for Square and Google, respectively.)
How does Secret keep things discreet? It’s devoid of names or profiles, and users are given temporary avatars when involved in a thread discussion. So, you no longer have to worry about how dear ol' Grandma on Facebook will react to that status regarding your new "Royals" inspired tattoo idea. (A tiger on a gold leash? Go for it!)
To upload your covert message to the app, just type in what’s on your mind, choose a color that matches the sentiment as a backdrop, and click upload. Just be sure to keep the app hidden from your main screen, or else the cat tiger will be out of the bag. (Oh No They Didn't)
