Prince Gives “Cheap Seats” A Whole New Meaning

There's nothing quite like going to a concert of one of your favorite acts. If nothing else, you get to send texts like, "OMG. I'm breathing the same air as Jay Z right now. #cantdeal" But, tickets to see big-name headliners can be pricey. For Prince fans, though, that's all about to change. The artist recently played a secret show in London at the home of his friend singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas. After the performance, he announced that he'd like to start charging about $10 for future tickets.
Prince's price cut is an effort to promote his new band, 3RDEYEGIRL. If you haven't heard of them yet, he describes the style as "funk 'n' roll." And, since the band's plan is to play small venues in London, the low-cost tickets seems like a realistic plan. Of course, we're hoping the group considers hitting up some U.S. venues, too. Perhaps a New York show (wink wink)?
What's even more surprising is that Prince also said he's okay with fans sharing bootleg content of his performances. He just asks that you don't sell it. This is an entirely different attitude than what we've seen from the pop icon in the past. You know, like that time he sued 22 fans for sharing his music online? Just sayin'.
Still, we're loving the way Prince is practicing what he preaches: You really don't have to be rich to be his girl. (Billboard)
