While buzz over the 2016 presidential election begins to build, we'd like to turn your attention to one of our favorite fictional candidates: Vice President Selina Meyer from HBO’s Veep. The hilarious VP is back in a just-released teaser for the comedy’s third season, which debuts on April 6.
First things first: The teaser is ridiculously short, clocking in at just 25 seconds. It starts with a promising air of drama and dignity, with a quotation from Abraham Lincoln: “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” Cut to funny gal Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina in all her awkward, embarrassing perfection. This short peek at season three encapsulates why we love Veep: Dreyfus' knack for physical comedy coupled with whip-smart dialogue that proves she's not as incompetent as her antics might indicate. If you haven't binge-watched seasons one and two yet, the show supplies the perfect dose of Elaine-era quirk while letting Dreyfus create an entirely new character. Oh, and did we mention Selina is something of a work-wardrobe icon? Capitol Hill interns, take note.
