The New York Palace Hotel, ever a modest establishment, recently unveiled its latest renovation. And, man is it fancy. Rarities, the self-described “intimate lounge,” is for the patron who enjoys the finer things in life. Things like, say, a $300 tumbler of Scotch or $10,000 bottle of vintage Port.
If you think the bev list imbues a sense of sticker shock, read on. Global design firm HOK took on the renovations for the hotel, which cost a spins-inducing $140 million. The opulent upgrade hearkens to an aristocratic past, as the lounge is adorned Empire-style wall coverings and other period decor. If you would like a taste of the high life — cost to be determined — you’ll have to try your hand at reservations. But, when Rarities members (yes, members) and select hotel suite guests are even required to make reservations, let's just say the odds are ever not in your favor. Even so, you might wanna start saving just in case. (BlackBook)
