An Ode To Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier’s Razzle-Dazzle Style

Confession: I am a huge New York Knicks fan. Despite never having gone to an actual game at Madison Square Garden, I've been following the franchise since the late '90s. Who needed fashion magazines when you could watch Patrick Ewing and Latrell Sprewell wax stylistic on the court? My faith in the team hasn't wavered through these few rough seasons, or even after that particularly heart-wrenching loss we don't need to discuss. But, this isn't an ode to the Knickerbockers. As much as I can't stop watching them swish and dish, I love checking out Walt Frazier's style even more — way more.

The former-Knick-star-turned-MSG-announcer is no stranger to fashion. He literally earned the nickname 'Clyde' in the late '60s for being as slick and stylish as Warren Beatty in Bonnie and Clyde — and he's been keeping things fresh ever since. Every time the camera pans to Frazier and co-announcer Mike Breen doing their thing pre-game, my eyes are bombarded by 6-feet-4-inches of colors, patterns, and textures. No one else pulls off pastel, paisley, and exotic animal skin quite like Frazier, amiright? And, trust, this look isn't even one of his most outré.
The thing is, it's not just Walt's suits that make me yell "Yassss!" to the TV (when there's no ball in play) — it's Frazier's confidence. You gotta give it up to a man who knows he's absolutely killin' it inside the world's most famous stadium. Seriously, he wasn't even embarrassed about wearing this custom-made cow suit. A few years ago, he told The New York Times: “I like unusual combinations. I have to entertain myself. I like combinations that people wouldn’t think would go normally together.” And, entertain, he does.
So, here's to you, Walt, for always razzlin' and dazzlin' us with your high-flying style on the small screen. The way I see it, you're basically the best thing to watch during game night. Sorry, Knicks.
