Michael Keaton plays the villain in the brand new Robocop reboot, which means the eccentric actor has been making the media rounds lately. Naturally, he's being asked a lot about the long-rumored Beetlejuice sequel. As it turns out, Keaton has been in regular contact with director Tim Burton about the very real possibility of reuniting for a sequel to the cult classic. "I've e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff," the actor told MTV recently. "I always said that’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved in some way or another."
Keaton is right. Despite there already being a script in the works, a sequel simply wouldn't work without the macabre touch of Tim Burton. Unfortunately, the director hasn't made one since Batman Returns, a misunderstood oddity that may have soured Burton on the whole experience. According to Keaton however, there's still hope of Burton jumping on board. "Now it looks like he is involved," he said. "And without giving too much away, we’ve talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in." According to the film's writers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, the sequel takes place 20 years after the original, and that they only want to make the film if Burton and Keaton are involved. Based on Keaton's recent admission, they might be in luck. (SlashFilm)
