World, meet MØ, the Danish singer to keep our ears tuned into. She's been slowly creeping around the periphery of the electro-pop scene for a minute, and it's high time her name gets out and in the forefront of our libraries. And, covering a jam like the Spice Girls' "Say You'll Be There" is one way to do it.
Taking cues from Purity Ring and Grimes, MØ's atmospheric rendition of the '90s hit is wonderful. It's no dance tune, and a music video (if there will be one) definitely doesn't call for a choreographed dance in miniskirts. The space theme, however, fits the bill to a T. MØ delivers a genuine cover that's as good as the original. It might not be enough to bring the OG Spices back together, but it's enough to keep us throwing up the girl power sign. Because, let's be real here: Nostalgia is best served with powerhouse vocals, synths, and peace signs.
