Kanye West and Bret Easton Ellis have made the oddest of creative bedfellows ever since the pair collaborated on an American Psycho-inspired video for Kanye's last album Yeezus.
The video, which featured Kardashian lackeys Scott Disick and Jonathan Cheban, wasn't nearly as innovative as West's previous visual work, but apparently he and Ellis clicked, and have maintained a relationship ever since. West was the guest on Ellis' inaugural podcast, and also remixed a trailer for the Ellis-penned clunker The Canyons.
According to the 49-year-old novelist, he and West aren't done creating together. Not even close. In a new interview with Vice magazine, Ellis revealed that he's been working on a screenplay based on Yeezus, after the rapper approached him about the project. "I didn't want to at first," he told the magazine. "Then I listened to Yeezus."
"He'd given me an advance copy [of Yeezus] and I thought, regardless of whether I'm right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this," Ellis said, about the film collaboration. "That was seven or eight months ago. We'll see what happens."
Like all of West's endeavors, details surrounding the film are shrouded in secrecy, and not even Ellis knows when we can expect more information. "It's in Kanye-land," he added. "That's subject to a whole other timeframe." Here's hoping this time they leave Cheban and Disick at home. (Spin)
