Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz Tour Isn’t, Erm, Bangin’

Miley Cyrus can't stop, but the general public certainly can. Despite being the zeitgeist's most provocative person last year (post-twerk), her Bangerz tour is underperforming. According to Forbes, average ticket sales have dropped to $182 from the original asking price of $225. In addition, searches of Cyrus on Google have plummeted by 80% since her MTV appearance.
Yet, her music continues to sit pretty at the top of the charts, and the album she's out promoting on a giant hot dog is still on the iTunes top albums chart. It's her antics — the 24-karat rolling papers, the nether-region hugging body suits, the floppy tongue — that have lost their edge (if there ever was any). Reviews of the show tout the songs and her vocal ability and Rolling Stone notes: "She nailed her vocals throughout the entertaining evening." Cyrus does have a genuinely good voice. Her cover of "Jolene" is, according to Forbes, still killing it on YouTube. She even wowed guests at the pre-Grammy party with her rendition of the Dolly Parton hit. But, listening to Cyrus is a whole new ballgame compared to watching her; the voice often doesn't match with the visual.
So, her tour might be a critically hot mess, with oomph being lost to shock. And, sure, she's just being Miley, but it's not the grand finale to an otherwise impressive streak of headline domination. As the year progresses and her tour, if Forbes is correct in their prediction, flops, we'll be seeing a changed Cyrus. She'll get whatever moment she's having out of her system, look to her godmother, Dolly Parton, for guidance, and swing a wrecking ball at the country charts. (Forbes)
