Get (& Keep) Petal-Pink Hair At Home

As you may have heard (because I can't stop going on about it), I recently dyed my hair rose gold — about a month ago, at this point. But, the thing about rose-colored hair dye is that it's not really made to last. And, since the color I went with was so subtle, it's tragically been fading. So, desperate to revive the color, I went on a quest to find the best at-home pink remedy.

What I found was Davines Alchemic Red Conditioner. It was originally designed to keep the red in artificially red hair going strong. However, when used on light hair, it turns a lovely pastel pink — which is not all that surprising considering this product is already a vibrant fuchsia. Your hair doesn't need to be pink-hued to use it, just light enough to catch the pigment.

Here's how it works: After you shampoo, you towel dry your hair, and apply it as you would a conditioning mask. I put it everywhere because I wanted my hair to be as pink as possible, but there's infinite ways to do this. You can do ombré, pink tips, or just some fun streaks. It only takes five to eight minutes to set, and then you rinse it out.

I was amazed at the color that this conditioner produced. It's vibrant but not overwhelming — more like a pink petal than a pink prom dress. But, the color is more intense on the highlights of my hair, so it creates a really wonderful multi-dimensional effect. Ultimately, it's not permanent, but will hold out for a few washes. Depending on how often you wash your hair, that might be a very long time (cough).
