Grace Kelly, the stunning Hollywood star, style icon, and eventual princess of Monaco, had what was, by all outside appearances, a perfect fairytale life. But, the upcoming film Grace of Monaco, directed by Olivier Dahan and starring Nicole Kidman, explores whether Kelly really had it all. Intrigued? You should be — and the just-released full-length trailer will only add to the anticipation.
The movie focuses on a short period of Kelly’s life, when she had given up acting, moved to Monaco, and started a family with Prince Ranier III. In the trailer, she's torn between accepting a film offer from Alfred Hitchcock and standing by her family during tumultuous times in Monaco. Director Dahan insists that Grace of Monaco is not a biopic, but Kelly's three children have all criticized the film — probably because, as the trailer suggests, the film doesn’t portray her life in the usual fairytale-come-true light.
From the trailer alone, Kidman makes a phenomenal Grace Kelly, and we're genuinely looking forward to the costuming — after all, recreating Kelly's iconic style is a costume designer's dream. The film is set to open in theaters on June 6, after it debuts at the Cannes Film Festival in May. 'Til then, you'll find us experimenting with head scarves, oversized sunnies, and perfect French twists.
