We're admittedly pretty voyeuristic. Blame it on our teeny-tiny apartments, but we love checking out where Manhattan's elite set up shop. And, if you're like us, you'll be just as intrigued by the details of 15 Central Park West — Manhattan's most expensive residence. Built in 2008, the building is home to celebrities, titans of finance, and your run-of-the-mill foreign moguls. Thankfully, Michael Gross' new book, House Of Outrageous Fortune: 15 Central Park West, gives us all the glittery details.
Residents can avail of some killer amenities, like a personal chef, temperature-controlled wine rooms, a private screening room, and a decked-out fitness center complete with swimming pool. Need we even address the sweeping views?
From what we can tell of 15 CPW, it's essentially the Downton Abbey of Manhattan. Why? The real story is what goes on behind the scenes with the staff, which includes seven concierges, six doormen, eight lobby attendants, and a host of other maintenance staff. Gross tapped both current and former employees for the inside scoop on what really goes on in the building. Aside from the regular visits from celebs like Cameron Diaz, staff members say they have earned up to $100,000 in tips at Christmas time.
"The residents of 15 CPW are our latter-day priesthood of power," writes Gross. "[The building] redefined what first class is in New York, in America, and in the world." And, he's right. If you've got a cool $65 million to spare, you, too, can live in this landmark building. Sure, it's expensive, but can you really put a price tag on being neighbors with Sting and Denzel Washington?
