The World Cup is set to unfold this summer in Brazil. The best footballers will take the field, and we'll all be witness to poetry in motion, an operatic display of competition the likes of which the masses have never seen. Good for them.
The only World Cup we care about is the Quidditch World Cup, which J.K. Rowling has gone to extreme lengths to detail in a new 2,400-word essay, which can be found on Pottermore, the online home base for all things Harry Potter.
In the essay, Rowling recounts a series of controversial matches that went down in 1877, during The Tournament That Nobody Remembers. A second part to the essay is due March 21, and will also be published on Pottermore.
While the last Harry Potter book was published way back in 2007, Rowling has done her best to expand the universe in the most unexpected ways. Along with this essay, Rowling published Quidditch Through the Ages under the pseudonym Kennilworthy Whisp. She's also working on a movie spinoff, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, and is in the midst of bringing a play about Harry's early years to life. (Slash Film)
