Hosting a black-tie affair, encountering a handsome stranger (and proceeding to coyly toss him a calling card in the form of a perfume bottle), and racing away on a speedboat are all in a day's work for Keira Knightley in the newest installment of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle ad campaign. But, what really impressed us? She does it all while rocking the most effortlessly cool makeup trend, the reverse cat-eye. (We just knew the lower-lash-swoop would become a thing.)
But, in keeping with her disappearing acts throughout the ad (Knightley eludes her potential suitor to the tune of Brit band The Zombies' "She's Not There"), the reverse cat-eye itself is, admittedly, somewhat elusive as well. From some angles, it's obvious she's sporting this upside-down look, but then, Knightley dips or dodges in a different direction, and we're not 100% sure anymore. "Nobody can quite capture her; so she is kind of there, but she is sort of playing with them," the actress says of her starring role. "And, then she gets on a speed boat! What more can you ask for?"
The mischievous nature of the ad (and that sneaky liner) is nothing if not appropriate for the scent in question: Coco Mademoiselle, in all its fresh, oriental-scented goodness, is one of our favorites. It smells different yet equally great on almost everybody. But, since we'd never dare question the magic that is Chanel, maybe some mysteries really are better left unsolved.
