Kim Jong-un’s Haircut Is The New Standard For Korean Students

Insert "hairy situation" joke here: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has declared that all male undergraduate students under his reign are required to wear his signature fade haircut, according to a story published today by Time. Previously, all citizens in North Korea had to choose hairstyles from a list of state-sanctioned cuts. And, while Korean women are apparently still allowed to choose from the list, male students in college will no longer have that choice. After all, why have options when this particular haircut is so universally flattering, right?

North Koreans aren't exactly pleased with the new law, which was introduced two weeks ago and is now becoming a national decree. And, not for the obvious reason of their personal rights being violated, mind you. Apparently, Koreans view the long-on-top, shaved-on-the-sides style as being evocative of a hairstyle worn by Chinese smugglers. The jury's still out on how exactly this law will be enforced. But, the idea of clipper-wielding policemen is certainly a terrifying thought.
