Britney Covers Madonna’s “Burning Up” — And It’s Good!

Britney Spears, in her current role as the Queen of Vegas, may not be moving units like she once did, but she's still keeping the myth alive for thousands of fans a night, Celine Dion-style. And, every so often, she throws us a curveball, in downloadable form.
Here we have pop's ultimate Southern belle paying tribute to her spiritual godmother Madonna with a cover of 1983's hit "Burning Up." Originally performed live on Britney's Femme Fatale tour a few years back — to the delight of both Brit and Madge's fans — this studio version has finally surfaced on YouTube. It is sparkly, dance-y, and overall pretty decent.
Of course, this isn't the first time that pop's leading legends collided worlds. There's the infamous VMA lip lock — forever embedded in our collective visual history — and, less heroically, the subsequent Brit/Madge single, "Me Against The Music" — both over a decade old now, believe it or not. And, for truly devoted, deep-web-diving pop enthusiasts, there's even the endearingly undercooked "Material Girl" cover Brit served up on her 1999 Baby One More Time tour. Britney's string of intimate Vegas shows will continue April 25th. Check out her version of "Burning Up" below.
