At Refinery29, our ethos of discovery means that we are always keeping our ear to the ground, hoping to unearth the very best new artist or an exciting collaboration from a musician we already know and love. That is to say, we take our music very seriously. We don't put our stamp of approval on anything that we wouldn't load directly into our own iPod (or Spotify, or other various audio devices) first. So, you can trust the excitement we're bubbling over with in sharing "Chick Flick," a new song from Leah Mason's forthcoming release out June 10. Here is what you gotta know:

Who? Leah Mason, a London gal with a blues-rock heart.
How long has she been around? She's fresh on the scene, but started making waves in 2010.
What does she sound like? Mason's got downtown cool and a Tarantino edge — so, more cool.
When should you listen to her? Turn her up when you need to feel a little more badass than you already are.
If this song were to play at a fictional bar, it'd play at: Tarantino's Cockatoo Inn from Jackie Brown.
There are very few modern musicians able to do the blues so right, they make a name for themselves in the genre. ZZ Ward is one, and Leah Mason is following close behind. (You know you're up to something fantastic when you can count Lady Gaga among your Twitter followers.) "Chick Flick" gets right down into the grit of the genre and carries the hard edge necessary for a solid blues track. "This is always so much fun to play live," Mason told us, "the groove's huge...you can't help but dance to it." As for the song's lack of chick-flick themes? "It's definitely not about a chick flick," she said. "When we were demoing it we nicknamed it 'Chicken Flickin'' 'cause of the opening riff and it stuck!"
