Tourists and trend-seekers are not alone in their love for the cronut, it seems. And, now Soho's Dominique Ansel Bakery, home to the desirable dessert and three-hour lines, is also home to mice. As if written as some warped rendition of the beloved children's book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, hordes of these little rodents have gone bonkers over the pastry hybrid.
After a customer took a video of a mouse scurrying around the bakery's floor — behavior most likely the result of a pastry-induced sugar rush — authorities were forced to take action.
New York's health department has found a mouse infestation at the bakery so severe that it requires professional pest control. Dominique Ansel Bakery previously earned an A rating from the Department of Health. But, now the sweet spot is closed until further notice. Meaning Manhattan is forced to take a hiatus from the cronut craze.
So long for now, dear cronut. We'll miss you. (Gothamist)
