Let The Frenzy Commence: Hourglass Brings Back Ambient Lighting Trio

We have a bone to pick with some of our favorite beauty brands. Not to get all Jerry Seinfeld, but what's the deal with limited-edition beauty products? Oh, we get that creating a limited run of something helps brands to create excitement (or, in the case of Naked palettes, an all-out riot in the streets) and increase sales, but why do they always have to make their most amazing launches the ones that sell out in a hot second, gone forever from our grasps?
Case in point: Hourglass's Ambient Lighting Palette. Launched in November, the palette featured three of the brand's new Ambient Lighting face powders — Dim Light, Incandescent Light, and Radiant Light — in one handy compact. The powders were designed to recreate certain ideal "lighting conditions" on your skin by "capturing, diffusing, and softening the way light reflects on your skin."

Hourglass founder and CEO Carisa Janes knew the powders were going to be popular, but even she wasn't prepared for the chaos that the palette would cause. It sold out in November, less than a month into its limited run. Janes herself never even got one — she had a lab sample, which she took with her on a business trip and was stolen from her hotel room. Palettes were selling on eBay for as much as $200, and the Hourglass customer-service reps were inundated with requests from desperate consumers asking for any samples they could get their hands on.
Recognizing a massive opportunity when she saw it, Janes realized she needed to resurrect the palette and make it a permanent in-line addition to the brand's offering. It debuts on the Hourglass website today, then will be at Sephora next week and at Hourglass's other main retailers soon after.
While there isn't any risk of you missing out entirely on the palette this go-round, if you're eager to add this into your makeup routine right now, we'd suggest you don't hesitate — each palette is handmade, so when they do sell out, it might take a bit longer than usual for the brand to restock. Also, if you travel with it, maybe lock it up with your passport in the hotel safe. Just sayin'.
