Why You Need To Try Rose-Gold Makeup

Chances are unless you're a total and utter makeup newbie, you've tried some version of metallic makeup at this point. However, as gorgeous as your typical gold or silver shades are, we'd like to challenge you to take your metallics game to a new level this spring with the season's hottest shade: rose gold. If you're concerned that this pink-tinged shade will look too red around the eyes and too, well, spangly everywhere else, worry not. James Boehmer, star makeup artist at NARS and creator of the unforgettable rose-gold eyes at Creatures of The Wind's fall '13 show is here to tell you exactly how to get the look.

"Rose gold looks great on all skin tones because it's the perfect combination of warm and cool," advises the makeup artist. "When worn on the eye especially, it adds contrasts with and brightens the eye — and it's a perfect way to add a touch of warmth and radiance to the skin." So, this is one beauty trend that you can comfortably take for a spin (because, hey, we understand that hat braids or bleached brows may not be for everyone).
This season, Boehmer is loving a gleam of warm pink-gold on the eyes, but the makeup artist assures that you really can't go wrong no matter how you wear this warm, flattering shade. "When using rose gold, you should choose it like any other accessory — go with what you’re attracted to."
If you're really feeling the hue, Boehmer suggests going for a monochromatic look. "Start by applying a cream color, like the new NARS Iraklion Soft Touch Shadow Pencil from the summer 2014 Color Collection, as a base all over the eyelid, and soften it with your finger," suggests the artist. "Next, apply a powder shadow on top to set the pencil, like Nepal Single Eyeshadow. Finish the eyes with a few coats of volumizing mascara, and add a bit of definition to the brows. Keep it monochromatic by adding the new Na Pali Coast Multiple to the cheeks and lips."
So, don't be afraid to go for the glow, and don't be shy. After all, who doesn't want to look as if they've been bathed in a ray of warm spring sunlight?
NARS The Multiple in Na Pali Coast, $39, available at Nordstrom; NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Iraklion, NARS Shimmer Eyeshadow in Nepal, $25, available at NARS.
