Jessica Alba is one of those celebrities, like Emma Stone, who manages to take beauty risks on the regular, yet still look totally and utterly gorgeous. (So much so that sometimes we have to forcibly stop ourselves from writing about the pair, lest the R29 Beauty Page turn into an Ode To Jessica and Emma.) Alba, in particular, always manages to make super-colorful makeup look effortless — plus, she's got one of the best heads of hair in existence.
We were not necessarily surprised that Alba took yet another big beauty risk in her cover shoot for ELLE China — however, we were surprised by how transformative the look turned out to be. The super-voluminous curls (a major departure from Alba's usual beachy waves) and dark, moody lip practically give the actress a totally new persona. It's kind of Dark Angel gone modern, no?
What's also interesting about this look is how fall-like it is for a May issue. It looks as if the hair and makeup were plucked straight from the Marc Jacobs fall '13 runway. As we're right on the cusp of summer's humid weather, Alba's big, bodacious curls are inspiring us to embrace the frizz. Hey, if Alba can rock autumn in April, so can we!
