Eyebrow Transplants Are Here — Hello, Caterpillars

We always welcome the fine things England has to offer — Downton Abbey, Ellie Goulding, and men with accents come to mind. However, some British exports have us scratching our heads. And, in this case, we mean that literally. Eyebrow transplants, popularized across the pond, are now available in NYC — and in demand.
Dr. Robert Dorin, a local hair-restoration specialist, says he's seen a significant rise in women looking for his services. In his experience, patients either have a voracious plucking habit or are simply unhappy with their natural set. “I can’t pinpoint an exact number, but have certainly seen a rise in both men and women coming in requesting the procedure," Dorin told us. And, his suspicion is fashion is to blame. While the early 2000s saw a thinner-brow trend, current style dictates a bolder look. As a result, women are flocking to his services. "I see most patients coming in who have over-plucked their brows to the point where they won’t grow back and need a permanent solution," he says. However, he does explain that other conditions (electrolysis, genetics, hypothyroidism, and other hormonal etiologies and trauma) bring in patients, too.

The $1,000 procedure transplants a small amount of hair from the head to the brows and takes about two hours. Keep in mind, though, you'll have to keep up with trimming them after the surgery, as the new hair will grow faster than your natural brows. Cheers, Cara D.
