Black and white eye makeup is everywhere right now, but for our summer-beauty plan? We're looking for something a little more colorful. So, when makeup artist Sayeda Popal of Pucker told us about the wonders of combining gold eyeliner with navy-blue mascara, our ears definitely perked up.
White eyeliner on your lower waterline can make your peepers seem wider and brighter. But, it's also a super-noticeable color, and that's not always what we're going for. "Using a gold pencil on your waterline makes your eyes appear as wide as white eyeliner does," Popal says, "but it's much more subtle." She applies a smudgy line on the upper lid as well, creating a soft-focus bronze-y look.

As for the navy-blue mascara? It creates a much softer lash than black while adding in a fresh hue. "This looks good on every eye color," she notes, "from the darkest brown to the lightest blue." It balances nicely with the gold, creating a dreamy summer effect that's lighter than a smoky eye but still makes a statement.
This is the kind of bold eye that will work with a nude lip as well as a bright pout, like one in a vibrant, matte coral. We're officially convinced to retire our more conventional black and brown products — at least through the warmer months. Why keep it simple when you can do something surprising?
