It's official: The new Hollywood adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG is going to be a BFD.
A live-action version of the 1982 classic children's story is set to be directed by none other than Steven Spielberg. The DreamWorks film is slated for a 2016 release, with production getting underway in early 2015. Patience, little ones.
As wee bookworms will recall, the story centers around a young orphaned girl who befriends a Big Friendly Giant. Spielberg's challenge will be to evoke Quentin Blake's magical illustrations from the original book. And, since it's live-action, he'll also have to find someone incredible to play a giant. What's Shaq doing next year? Is Daniel Day-Lewis up for some more method acting?
Lest you scoff at the thought of seeing a kid's film, consider this. The film will reunite Spielberg with BFG screenwriter Melissa Mathison, who also penned E.T. Like we said, it's a BFD. See ya at the cinema. (The Hollywood Reporter)
