At Refinery29, our ethos of discovery means we are always keeping our ears to the ground, hoping to unearth the very best new artist or an exciting collaboration from a musician we already know and love. That is to say, we take our music very seriously. We don't put our stamp of approval on anything that we wouldn't load directly into our own audio devices first. So, you can believe our excitement over this unplugged video of Sir Sly's "Gold" from the Dr. Martens' #STANDFORSOMETHING session. Here's what you gotta know:
Who? Los Angeles' own Sir Sly.
How long has it been around? The trio has been going at it for over two years.
What does it sound like? A chilled-out Foster The People mixed in with a little of Imagine Dragons stadium rock; that's Sir Sly.
When should you listen to it? Normally, the studio stuff is perfect for those idyllic afternoons with nothing to do but live. But, after hearing Sir Sly's acoustic set, we're pretty sure the sound will work well for those more intimate times of your life.
If this song was an ice cream flavor, it would be: Devil's-food-cake ice-cream sandwiches, because of how foreboding the song sounds.

Sir Sly's first single, "Ghost," took the Internet by storm, but the band itself remained a mystery. Thanks to curious minds, a solid EP (found here), and the fact that the spotlight will find a band once it reaches a certain level of fame, Sir Sly's three personalities have been revealed. Sir Sly joined forces with Dr. Martens' #STANDFORSOMETHING and performed an intimate, stripped-down set. The original synths and production of "Gold" (the video is found on the next page) were traded for on-point vocals and bare-bones guitar and drums. It's haunting without pandering. Plus, Dr. Martens' campaign advocating originality provides a solid platform for the trio's big-time launch. Keep an eye out for these boys. It's only a matter of time before you'll be seeing the name Sir Sly errywhere.
