Flapper Girl Drops Acid: The Lupita Nyong’o Met Gala Story

This is the moment we have all been waiting for, people. Lupita Nyong'o has arrived at the 2014 Met Gala. As a reminder, the theme this year is "White Tie With Decorations." Nyong'o is not wearing a white tie, but she is definitely decorated, after a fashion. There is fringe, there are baubles, there is beading and netting and a decorative headpiece.
An outfit like this is hard to pull off. It might even be impossible to pull off. Sheer (or, shall we say, wide-open netting) is challenging, but we find that throwing a nude body suit underneath is not the answer. This was a rare misstep for a style star who is pretty much always on point — so much so that she has actually redefined the phrase "on point." We love the shade of green, we love that she embraced the "decorations" theme in her own way, we love that she is confident with her typical 1,000-watt smile. But, we don't love the outfit. That's okay! Everybody gets one, and Lupita's past record is certainly a hard one to tarnish. For now, we're going to keep her Oscars gown as the mental image and let this memory fade.

Though, apparently, Vogue does not agree with us. Admittedly, the detailing is nice, but it still likes an instance when a dress is wearing the person, and not the other way around.
