After a couple of weeks of speculation, it's now official. HBO announced Monday that it will revive Lisa Kudrow's mockumentary-style comedy series The Comeback. The show, which was canceled in 2005, originally ran for only one season. The network has green-lit six episodes for the new season, which begins production this month and will debut in the fall.
Kudrow plays washed-up '90s TV actress Valerie Cherish, the star of a reality show that chronicles her return to the limelight. In the first season, Cherish is cast in a new sitcom as the nagging Aunt Sassy, who uncomfortably hovers over a group of oversexed teens played by Malin Akerman and a pre-Twilight Kellan Lutz. Cherish is by turns tragically un-self-aware and wholly sympathetic as she struggles to regain her relevance in youth- and image-obsessed Hollywood.

One of the hallmarks of the show is its unscripted feel, mostly thanks to Kudrow's impressive improv skills and her ability to play someone who quietly grows more and more unhinged. Case in point:
