If we had $147 million, we have a few ideas of what we might buy: a whole Céline wardrobe, puppies for everyone in the office, and possibly a lifetime supply of Momofuku Crack Pie. Not on our list? The most expensive home in America. Besides, someone already did that this past week. The lucky new home owner is hedge-fund manager Barry Rosenstein of Jana Partners. He laid down the big bucks for a sprawling 18-acre estate at 60 Further Lane in East Hampton.
While there aren't pics of the actual house, The New York Times did post photos of the extensive grounds when it belonged to previous owner Christopher H. Browne, managing director of the Tweedy, Browne Company investment firm. Mr. Rosenstein is now the proud owner of a quaint wood bridge, two Adirondack chairs facing a green lawn, lily-pad-filled ponds, and a wild field of cosmos flowers. And, although we doubt they would ever see each other, his new neighbors are Jerry Seinfeld, art dealer Larry Gagosian, and hedge-fund manager Jim Chanos. Besides all the privacy, the best asset is the stunning beachfront. Maybe he'll be interested in renting us a few square feet of sand. (Forbes)
