Eminem sure knows how to make a splash. While we're just wrapping up our Mother's Day mimosas, the hip-hop god dropped what might be his most epic video ever: "Headlights."
Directed by none other than Spike Lee — his first time helming a music video since Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” in 2009 — the clip is basically one giant apology to Em's mom, Debbie Mathers.
The rapper has been very open about his troubled relationship with his mother, which he detailed in songs such as "Cleaning Out My Closet." But, that was then. Eminem has done a lot of growing since he first broke onto the scene with the blistering The Slim Shady LP in 1999. He sounds decidedly less angry on his latest, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and particularly on "Headlights" where he raps: "Cause, now I know it's not your fault and I'm not making jokes / That song I'll no longer play at shows and I cringe every time it's on the radio." It's him addressing the verbal atrocities he once spewed regularly onto his mom, but is it enough?

Eminem remains estranged from his Mrs. Mathers, who once filed a $10 million lawsuit against her son, accusing him of slander. Perhaps this gesture is the first step in repairing a seriously toxic relationship. Something tells us that after years of public humiliation, it may take a little more than a song and a video patch things up.
