Some sad news came from the CBS upfront presentation today. It seems How I Met Your Dad, the new show from the creators of How I Met Your Mother, won't be hitting the network's airwaves this year — CBS passed on ordering the project to series.
The sitcom, which was set to star Greta Gerwig as the mother and Meg Ryan as the narrator, received a ton of early buzz. But, according to the network, the pilot simply wasn't what it had expected. "I'm heartsick," CBS' Nina Tassler told reporters. "We love this brand and we love this show, but it didn't work out." Tassler noted that network executives approached the show's creators about making some changes, but producers were against it.
Of course, that doesn't mean it's all bad news. How I Met Your Dad's producers may begin shopping the pilot around to other networks, so there's a chance it could be picked up elsewhere. After all, this kind-of-spinoff garnered an impressive amount of early chatter, and its predecessor was a big-time cash cow. Here's hoping we'll see HIMYD soon on the tube. NBC, you in? (E! Online)
