You’re Road Tripping Wrong If This Track Isn’t On Your Playlist

At Refinery29, our ethos of discovery means that we are always keeping our ear to the ground, hoping to unearth the very best new artist or an exciting collaboration from a musician we already know and love. That is to say, we take our music very seriously. We don't put our stamp of approval on anything that we wouldn't load directly into our own iPod (or Spotify, or other various audio devices) first. So, you can trust the excitement we're bubbling over with in sharing MISUN's new track "Eli Eli," off the forthcoming Kitsuné America 3 compilation out June 2 (available here). Here is what you gotta know:

Who? Washington D.C.'s own future-retro trio MISUN gets a little helping hand from producer Nacey.

How long has it been around? MISUN dropped its first EP, The Sea, two summers ago and hasn't stopped since.

What does it sound like? MISUN is a conglomerate of sounds. At one point its bouncing on hip-hop vocals with dance-rock beats and then it's gone '60s synth. It has aptly referred to its genre as Aquawave, but we just call it badass.

When should you listen to it? Slip your leather jacket on with some Ray-Bans, and hit the town. MISUN's vibe adds the right amount of edge to any adventure.

If this song was added to a soundtrack, it would play: The proverbial "sweet escape" scene, where all inhibitions are cast to the wind in favor of the open road.

Misun Wojcik's vocals have this soulful, been-around-the-block sound to them that needs to be featured on a Rolling Stones' track. It's out in full force here with some old-school beach vibes on "Eli Eli," making this summer 2K14's road-trip anthem.
