One sound dominated the pop scene back in 2011: the saxobeat. It's a noise that's been said to, when "played sweet," make people "move like a freak." And, since the music industry is all about asking what everyone is getting turned down for these days, this horny drum combo has been revived to turn people up.
Cue Ariana Grande, the less elusive chanteuse commonly pitched as the next Mariah Carey. She (well, her producers/team of shadowy svengalis) have employed and deployed the self-proclaimed new classic Iggy Azalea for "Problem," one of the many tracks vying for that coveted Song of The Summer title. Azalea is one way to do achieve this distinction; adding that saucy saxobeat underneath it all is another. The track doesn't have the oomph of last summer's "Get Lucky," but hey, Daft Punk can't put its robo-gloss on everything. (Plus, Grande's pipes reach high enough to make listeners raise one palm to the sky and shout "yaaas!")
Basically, what we have here is a sugary-sweet confectionery wrapped in mod cloth and sealed shut with cans of hairspray. Summer will eat it up. The rest of the world will eat it up. But, there's just one problem with "Problem" -- there's no chorus. Just Big Sean's mouth.
