When the first teaser trailer for The Giver premiered in March, everyone who's read the book had the same question: Why is it in color? Loyalists will be delighted to see that the new, extended version is indeed in its correct, black-and-white form. This clip is also longer, so we get more Meryl Streep — and even more goosebumps. The two-and-half minutes are crazy suspenseful — and left us wanting more.
Even if you never read 1984 or Brave New World, The Giver was most likely on a school reading list. And, watching this extended trailer reminds us how Lois Lowry set the tone for books like The Hunger Games. The dystopian story clearly influenced some of today's biggest YA hits.
