It takes a lot for us to get excited about a fragrance without, you know, actually smelling it. Unless, of course, that fragrance is designed by the one and only Alexander Wang for Balenciaga. Women's Wear Daily reports that the new scent, B Balenciaga, combines influences from the brand's heritage with Wang's own contemporary sensibilities. As for what that combo smells like? "Top notes are of lily of the valley bell, violet green leaves accord and green edamame accord; a heart of iris root and cedarwood, and a base of ambrette seeds and cashmeran wood," according to WWD.
The fragrance will be available in October, but apparently, Wang's been working on it since he became the fashion house's creative director in 2012. Wang says that developing the fragrance was emotional in the same way that designing clothes and accessories is for him and involved a lot of "soul searching." While that sort of sentiment from any other designer might generate an eye roll from us, we feel like he's probably not exaggerating.
B Balenciaga will be available in about 300 U.S. speciality stores once it launches. Until then, we'll just be gazing at the campaign images, trying to imagine lily of the valley mingling with cedar. (Women's Wear Daily)
