We've barely recovered after watching the heartbreaking The Fault in Our Stars, and already Hollywood is throwing another YA weepie our way. We would ask to be spared from another summer bummer, but based on the new preview, this next tearjerker looks too good to resist.
If I Stay stars Chloë Grace Moretz playing a musical prodigy who's in a coma after a tragic car accident kills her entire family. She's left with a choice to live or die — a decision she has to make over the course of one fateful day. Full disclosure: There's a boy involved.
The film is based on the best-selling novel by Gayle Forman, and it is guaranteed to do boffo box-office numbers thanks to a built-in following. That bodes well for Moretz, who will be looking to convince audiences that she can convincingly play a romantic lead. It's unfamiliar territory for the 17-year-old star, who's trying to transition into more adult roles as she approaches her twenties. Judging by the wrenching trailer, our girl's gonna do just fine.
If I stay hits theaters August 22.
