Nicki Minaj may have lost the garish makeup, neon wigs, and intergalactic Barbie space suits of her past persona, but the 31-year-old rapper still brings the weird in the video for her new single, "Pills N Potions." Surreal images of pill-spewing PEZ dispensers, psychedelic clouds, and dancing bunny rabbits are used to bookend shots of a stripped-down Minaj and her onscreen love interest, played here by fellow rapper The Game. Things clearly aren't going well between the two make-believe lovers, judging by the images of Minaj holding her disembodied beau's head in her hands.
The ballad will appear on Minaj's upcoming third album, The Pink Print. It promises a return to her hip-hop roots while leaving the radio-ready fare of her last album behind. The real evidence of this new direction can be found in Minaj herself. The only dress-up she plays is with some rabbit ears, a grill, and a flood of metallic tears reminiscent of Terminator 2 baddie T-1000. If this hallucinogenic first video is any indication of what's coming next, we can't wait to see what else she has in store.
