You Won’t Recognize eBay By The End Of Today

eBay, the website formerly known as an incessant clicker's playground, is introducing a no-bids-needed shopping section. According to Women's Wear Daily, the newly launched Designer Collective contains this season's wares from 16 U.S.-based labels, including Calvin Klein, Nicole Miller, Cynthia Rowley, Rebecca Minkoff, Billy Reid, Elie Tahari, Cynthia Vincent, and True Religion. In the second half of the year, eBay plans to add international labels (and shipping) as well as "style stories, and content from influencers and bloggers."
The site didn't purchase any goods (unlike Amazon.com with Derek Lam's 10 Crosby e-shop). Instead, it constructed "storefronts" where each brand can sell its offerings — albeit at full cost. But, before you balk, note that "more than 70 percent of what's available to eBay's 145 million customers is new inventory sold at a fixed price," says WWD. Devin Wenig, president of eBay Marketplaces, estimated the site will facilitate over $90 billion in sales this year. But, he wouldn't specify what amount of the company's affairs are fashion-related. Just think — until today, the "Buy It Now" button was our only source of eBay undoings. (Women's Wear Daily)
