Chelsea Handler Quit Because She Doesn’t Care About Celebrities

Newsflash: Chelsea Handler is just as over the Kardashians as you are. In a new interview, the late-night talk-show host suggests that celebrity burnout, not contract negotiations, is the reason she's sending Chelsea Lately out to pasture.

"To be quite honest, I don't really care about Justin Bieber and I don't want to talk about him anymore," the comedian explained to the Daily Mail. "In order to make that happen I had to just stop doing my show. Straight away."

Handler is leaving E! in August, and is expected to announce her new TV plans in two weeks. Though she had been considered an appealing female option to shake up the all-male, network late-night lineup, the 39-year-old said she simply wants to move on from the celebrity beat.

"I think if you participate in the celebrity world then you don't really have a choice but to be involved in the drama," she added. "You end up getting so into the mix that it changes the topics of the day. You can sit around and complain about all that shit and the Kardashians all day, but if you're participating in it then what can you do? It really didn't feel great doing the show, and the only way to sort things out was to extricate myself from the entire situation."

Instead, she described her new project as a "bit more mindful and a little bit more interesting for me and my viewers."

Given the spanking she gave Piers Morgan on CNN earlier this year, it's too bad she's not interested in taking over his slot and showing him how it's really done. (Daily Mail)
