It's a good day for women in comedy, for two big reasons. One: Bridesmaids writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are reuniting to write, produce, and star in a new female buddy comedy. Two: Wiig will direct the film, making her debut behind the camera.
"We’re very excited to be writing," she and Mumolo said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave. We found one that’s nice and big. We’re putting a couch in there."
Early word has it that the TriStar comedy will focus on two best friends who "find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths." Which, come to think of it, is pretty much what every other female buddy comedy is about.
Mumolo also recently penned the screenplay for Miracle Mop, which will star Jennifer Lawrence. She also played Wiig's airplane seatmate in Bridesmaids and has a recurring role on the NBC sitcom About a Boy.
Now, about that writing cave. Any chance we can sneak Melissa McCarthy or Maya Rudolph in there? (The Hollywood Reporter)
