Valentine's Day is just over seven months away, which means if you don't have a date, start panicking right about now. Just kidding. But, if finding someone to share a walk, table, or bed with has proven difficult lately, we might have a fix. Though, it's not exactly an easy one.
Rent.com looked at U.S. cities with more than 50,000 rental dwellings, populations greater than 100,000, and high concentrations of single adults to determine the best cities to live in for the unattached. The verdict: Start packing your bags, people.
Topping the list was San Francisco, with nearly half of the city's population of 813,433 listed as single. To no one's surprise, Manhattan is still the singles playground it was when Carrie Bradshaw and Co. roamed the streets, with 38% of its 1.5 million adults still sans lover. Washington, Boston, and Seattle also round out the top five.
Among the more unexpected single havens in America is Minneapolis, which has an adult population that's 25% single. The city — not known for its electric nightlife or its inviting weather — was recently named the third best for recent college graduates. Could these twentysomethings be looking for work and a soul mate? Jersey City has also emerged as a hub for unattached adults, and with New York City just over the horizon, the tristate area seems to be the nexus of singledom in America.
