The summer of Lana Del Rey is officially in full swing. And, if the pop star has her way, it will be a season full of guns, cigarettes, and swimming pools.
After releasing her long-awaited sophomore album, Ultraviolence, on Friday, the 27-year-old singer wasted no time dropping a video for her new single "Shades of Cool." The trippy new clip is vintage Del Rey, which means Del Rey in vintage. Lots of it. Even the man she's seducing seems of a different era, like say, the Stone Age.
That Del Rey chose to depict a relationship with a fellow who looks to be nearly three times her senior should come as no surprise. Since bursting onto the scene in 2011, the pillow-lipped chanteuse has been courting controversy via her many bold artistic choices. This May-December romance fits right in.
