London-based FKA twigs has been quietly tightening her grip on the charts for over two years. With her 2013 runaway hit, "Water Me," and its mesmerizingly simple video component, twigs set herself apart from the other trip-hop artists trying to break into the pop-sphere. She's an enigmatic, artistic force.
Her debut album, appropriately titled LP1 (her first two EPs were called EP1 and EP2), arrives August 12. Rather than tease new material, however, the 26-year-old released a remixed version of EP1's "Ache," with yet another stunning video.
Directed by Tom Beard and the singer herself, the minimalist visual highlights her dancer background in a sparse, industrial environment. It's brooding without the pretense. On the surface, it's an exploration of a woman torn between lovers. At its heart, though, is visceral proof that FKA twigs is the artist to watch in 2014. This isn't just music. This is a total sonic environment. (Dazed Digital)
