FKA Twigs Revives Aaliyah In “Two Weeks”

A week hasn't even gone by since we last reveled in an FKA twigs visual, and she's already serving up a smattering of new material. Ellie Goulding premiered the first studio single, "Two Weeks," off of twigs' forthcoming debut album, LP1, yesterday on BBC Radio 1. The Nabil-directed video surfaced a few hours after.
In the clip, twigs assumes the role of an Aaliyah-inspired Queen of the Damned ruler, reigning over cryptically dancing clones. It's a slow-moving assault of a visual, with its four-minute,single take gradually pulling back to reveal the kinetic painting Nabil created. The song itself is the aural equivalent of a sustained orgasm.
No contemporary artist — save for The Weeknd and maybe BANKS — has managed to infuse such a raw sexuality in their music without feeling exploitive. This isn't your everyday "let's get it on" jam. This is a spiritual experience that FKA twigs is hypnotically dominating. Submit to it — or, in this case, bow down.
