Need some Wednesday-morning eye candy? Here it is, in the form of a first peek at Lupita Nyong'o's debut Lancôme ad. Naturally, she looks like a flawless angel, complete with the kind of radiant skin most of us will spend our entire lives trying to achieve. The ad is particularly refreshing, though, because it features something not commonly seen in a beauty ad: her pores. Of course, she still looks gorgeous. We'd feel jealous if we didn't love her so much.
Also worth noting: It's incredibly rare to see a woman of color with Nyongo's skin tone in a foundation advertisement. Because of the institutionalized racism still prevalent in the beauty industry, women with darker skin tones are often significantly underrepresented. But, the foundation featured — the Teint Idole Ultra 24H — comes in 28 shades. Kudos to her for representing a product that, in turn, represents such a wide range of skin tones.
We can't wait to see the rest of this sure-to-be-lovely campaign. Stay tuned for more, and in the meantime, let us know what you think of this first snap.
