It feels like just yesterday that a seven-year-old Dakota Fanning stole our hearts in the tearjerker I Am Sam. Well, it wasn't. Fanning's breakout was actually 13 years ago, and we've since watched that precocious little girl morph into one of Hollywood's most arresting young actresses. The latest proof of Fanning's career evolution can be seen all over the new trailer for The Last of Robin Hood. The period drama premiered to raves at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, and will finally be released on August 29.
The film is based on the tragic downfall of swashbuckling star Errol Flynn. Fanning plays Beverly Aadland, the wide-eyed chorus girl who becomes involved in a torrid affair with the far-too-old acting legend, portrayed here by Kevin Kline. While the trailer begins by highlighting the glamour of Hollywood's Golden Age, things quickly turn somber when the forbidden tryst and the ensuing trial threaten to derail Flynn's career. It doesn't help that the young ingenue's desperate stage mom (Susan Sarandon) enables the illicit courtship.
