With just a keyboard, microphone, and box of Oreos, Dylan Spoering, 8, attracted a large, smiling crowd to his front yard on a rainy Minnesota afternoon. It all began with a handwritten sign posted outside his uptown Minneapolis home that read "Free Piano Concert by Dylan Spoering." A neighbor was so charmed by Dylan's invitation to the community that — with the approval of Dylan's parents — he created a Facebook event page for the performance.
The invite reached more than 3,000 people, with a little over 600 RSVPing on the event page itself. Though the exact number of actual attendees wasn't calculated, there were enough people to fill the Spoering family's front yard and surrounding sidewalks. And, that's more than enough to make an eight-year-old feel like a rock star.
During an intermission, the young pianist held a short Q&A session and handed out cookies. A local ice cream shop dispensed free cones across the street, and Minneapolis TV and newspaper reporters covered the entire event. Though the concert was brief, it was recorded, so you can watch it here. Rock on, Dylan. Rock on. (Reddit)
