This Week: Real Housewives Vs. Fake Hotwives

Tonight, The Real Housewives of New Jersey return to Bravo for a sixth season. And, after a very public legal battle over 41 counts of fraud and tax charges, original cast member Teresa Giudice may be filming season seven behind bars.
However, this week on Hulu, a new troupe of housewives premiere their very first season. Starting July 15, the online network brings together some of the funniest women on TV for Hotwives of Orlando, a parody of the Housewives franchise.
Created by Dannah Phirman and Danielle Schneider, the show's stars include Casey Wilson (Happy Endings), Tymberlee Hill (Drunk History), Andrea Savage (Step Brothers), Angela Kinsey (The Office), and Kristen Schaal (Flight of the Concords).

The satire brings all the beloved dramatics and hysterics of Housewives to Orlando, only even more exaggerated (if possible). Like an episode of the reality series on which it's based, the show follows the women's daily lives as they fight and cry and scream over parties, shoes, cars, and plastic surgery. “You follow their relationships, their wants, their needs, even if they seem a little bit ridiculous,” Schneider told Variety.
And, the inspiration for some of the hotwives is clearly taken from past Housewives rosters. "I think my character is kind of a mix of Kenya Moore and Gretchen Rossi and Tamra Barney," Casey Wilson said in an interview with the Huffington Post. But, the writers have also introduced some unmatchably original gals, including a religious zealot and a drug-addled former child star.
Plus, Schneider herself plays the role of an outspoken Italian-American with anger issues who's also on the verge of bankruptcy. So, Orlando may not be so different from Jersey after all.
