Vanity Fair's International Best Dressed List was released today, and we've got to say, we weren't exactly shocked by its contents. Are Cate Blanchett, Emma Watson, and Lupita Nyong'o well-dressed? Of course. Did everyone cite Audrey Hepburn as their personal style icon? Duh. Did Eddie Redmayne cement his permanent place in the writer's heart by saying that his style icon was his "pa?" He did, indeed.
One inclusion we didn't expect was Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, also known as the King of Bhutan. But, surprise or no surprise, we most certainly approve. Wangchuck is clearly a master of all things layering, including such advanced practices as bright color, mixed prints, and exaggerated shapes. Basically, he's to the Himalayas what Solange is to Brooklyn.
In this ensemble, called a gho, a belted robe that's traditional garb for any man holding a Butanese government position, and commonly worn for formal occasions, he's combined florals, rainbows, and a whole lotta canary yellow. Please, Jigme, teach us your ways. Kudos to Vanity Fair for featuring such an unusual candidate, and congratulations to Wangchuck for being our new style muse.
