Look off into the distance. Do you see that fading porcelain visage melting away just beyond the horizon? That's Bella Swan, the morose, vampire-loving teenager from the Twilight series. If Kristen Stewart keeps up her current career trajectory, poor Bella will soon be nothing but a distant memory.
And, that's exactly the point.
Camp X-Ray is KStew's latest attempt to delouse herself of the YA franchise that made her way too famous. In it, she plays a rookie female guard at Guantanamo Bay who forms an unexpected bond with a detainee. Based on the compelling first trailer, it's by far Stewart's least glamorous role to date, and her best case for awards consideration come fall.

While the film earned mixed reviews when it premiered at Sundance, critics were unanimous that Stewart totally brings it. With her performance in the upcoming psychological thriller Clouds of Sils Maria also earning the actress raves, we may be hearing the words "Kristen Stewart, Oscar winner" sooner than we think.
Camp X-Ray hits theaters on October 17.
