If you're in the camp that believes that a world without Joshua Jackson on television is a world not worth living in, it's time to step off that ledge. Jackson, a.k.a. Pacey Witter, a.k.a Peter Bishop, is set to return to the small screen in Showtime's new drama The Affair.
The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive first look at the series, which studies the ripple effects an extramarital affair has on Montauk and the people who reside there. Anyone who's vacationed in the Long Island beach town can attest that its rolling dunes and starry nights make the perfect backdrop for illicit romance.

The guilty parties here are played by The Wire's Dominic West and Luther's Ruth Wilson. What starts off as a physical attraction between the mutually married paramours becomes something much darker. "It gets pretty sinister," Wilson says in this new featurette. Jackson and Maura Tierney play the betrayees.
Of all the new hour-long dramas set to premiere this fall, The Affair looks like it has real potential to be a breakout hit. With so many shows trying their best to out-gimmick one another, it's nice to see a series focus on the classics: lust and betrayal.
The Affair premiers October 12 on Showtime.
